  • Ownsocial uses Youtube tags and transcripts to categorize our videos and make them more easily searchable. We built a site called aggregator.ownsocial.io that interacts with the YouTube Data API on behalf of all other Ownsocial sites. That is, it requests data, performs authentication and cleans data from the YouTube Data API. All requests between sites are checked for authenticity with a cryptographic hash. We store this data in a centralized database at aggregator.ownsocial.io to limit calls to the YouTube Data API. The tags for a video are stored as video metadata on the site which the video was posted. When a user chooses to download a video for a video they own, that transcript is stored on the site they posted the video and used the “Get YouTube Transcript” feature. Youtube data is shared between Ownsocial sites when posts containing Youtube videos are syndicated. This includes tags and transcripts.
